Three Sacramento Urban Debate League teams competed at the California High School Speech Association State Championship in Clovis, CA held on the weekend of April 12, 2024. This championship tournament was attended by over 1000 student entries from 178 schools across California.

CK McClatchy High School sent two pairs of policy debaters and West Campus High School sent one policy team. After 4 rounds of competition on whether to expand America’s social safety net, the team of Dylan Fail and Zai Xiang from West Campus placed 25th in the state. Next season, SUDL is planning to expand its debate education to more Sacramento schools, thanks in part due to grant funding secured by Assemblyman Kevin McCarty’s office.
